Lionel Reynaud is a dedicated French martial artist and certified Uechi-Ryu Karate instructor recognized both in France (FFK) and internationally by the International Uechi-Ryu Karate Federation (IUKF).
Holding the rank of 4th Dan (Yondan) and the title of Jun-Shihan awarded by Grandmaster George Mattson, he is known for his commitment to preserving the traditional roots of Okinawan Uechi-Ryu while leveraging modern learning formats to connect practitioners worldwide.
Martial Arts Path & Lineage
- Traditional Foundation: Trained extensively across Europe, the United States, and Japan, Reynaud focuses on the « Old Way » of Uechi-Ryu, emphasizing the historical methods, conditioning, and foundational principles associated with the legacy of Kanei Uechi.
- Mattson Academy & IUKF Connection: Deeply involved with the International Uechi-Ryu Karate Federation, he has worked under the guidance of Hanshi George Mattson (a pioneer of karate in the West), earning his Jun-Shihan teaching title and 4th Dan within this lineage.
- Multidisciplinary Budō Practice: In addition to karate, he is an active student of traditional Japanese swordsmanship, training daily in Mugai-ryū and Battōdō (associated with Mugai-ryu Meishi-ha and Tenshinkai).

- Founder of Uechi-Ryu Karate-Do Ōryūkai: In 2019, Reynaud established the Ōryūkai Community of Practice, an international hub aimed at uniting practitioners, sharing resources, and fostering collaborative training across organizational lines.
- Uechi-Ryu Kenkyujo (Institute): Through this platform and the Oryukan program, he developed comprehensive online curriculums in French and English, enabling students worldwide—even those without a local dōjō—to study traditional Uechi-Ryu remotely.
- Local Instruction (Shubukan Dōjō): Based near Toulouse in southwestern France, he leads regular weekly in-person classes at the Shubukan Dōjō, working alongside assistant instructors.
Background & Coaching Philosophy
Prior to committing full-time to martial arts, Reynaud was a professional high-performance cycling coach. His career in elite sport included working at the UCI WorldTour level and serving on coaching staffs for the French national team during major Olympic and Paralympic campaigns (Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016).
This elite sports science background informs his karate instruction, bringing a refined analytical understanding of biomechanics, kinetic chains, physical conditioning, and performance psychology to traditional Okinawan budō.
上地流唐手道 準師範
麗野 莉雄念（リオネル・レイノ）は、フランス空手道連盟（FFK）および国際上地流空手道連盟（IUKF）公認の上地流空手道準師範です。現代における上地流のパイオニアであるジョージ・マットソン範士より四段位および準師範の称号を允許され、沖縄伝統上地流の真髄を守り伝えながら、グローバルな指導・コミュニティ形成に取り組んでいます。
武歴と系譜
- 伝統空手の探求：ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、日本各地で研鑽を積み、上地完英先生の遺産に根ざした「古流のあり方（Old Way）」——身体鍛錬、土台の形成、原点の原則に重きを置いた稽古を実践。
- マットソン・アカデミーおよびIUKFとの結びつき：ジョージ・マットソン範士の薫陶を受け、IUKFの系譜において四段・準師範を取得。
- 古流武術の修錬：空手道にとどまらず、無外流明士派および抜刀道（天心会）の日々の稽古にも打ち込み、武道としての刀法・身体運用を深く探求。
指導実績と国際コミュニティの構築
- 上地流伝承欧琉会の創設：2019年、流派や組織の垣根を越えて稽古・知見を共有する実践共同体応龍会を設立。
- 上地流伝承研究所：フランス語・英語による体系的なオンライン指導カリキュラムを構築し、近くに道場がない世界中の学習者にも伝統上地流を学べる環境を提供。
- 地域での指導（修武館道場）：フランス南西部トゥールーズ近郊の修武館にて直接指導を行い、指導助手陣や沖縄古武道指導者とともに後進の育成に尽力。
経歴と指導理念
武道の世界に専念する以前は、ハイパフォーマンス・サイクリングのプロコーチとして活動。UCIワールドツアーチームの指導や、フランス代表チームのコーチングスタッフとして北京（2008年）、ロンドン（2012年）、リオデジャネイロ（2016年）のオリンピック・パラリンピック大会に帯同した実績を持ちます。
トップアスリートの育成現場で培われたスポーツ科学、生体力学（バイオメカニクス）、キネティックチェーン（運動連鎖）、メンタルマネジメントの知見は、現在の沖縄伝統空手の指導現場にも色濃く反映されており、論理的かつ身体機能に忠実なアプローチを実現しています。
